Vardar clinches 9th title champion of Macedonia (Video)

Vardar celebrates the opening goal; photo: FK VardarWith the win over Shkupi, Vardar officially managed to defend the title and is champion of Macedonia for the 9th time.

Vardar needed only a point in order to claim the title, but the red&black team did not take anything for granted and beat its rival. Captain Grncharov opened the score five minutes after the break and Armenian national team player Hambardzumyan cemented the win in the 77th minute. The game was placed in the city of Probishtip as Vardar in banned from played in his hometown.

This is the 9th title for Vardar in the history of the Macedonian top flight (1992/93, 1993/94, 1994/95, 2001/02, 2002/03, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2014/15, 2015/16). Vardar is the most successful Macedonian club and now has 5 titles more than second-placed Rabotnichki.

Shkendija will end the season as runners-up, failing once again to overconme Vardar in the title battle. Todays 3:0 win over Sileks is only a Pyrric win, but an important thing in this win is that Ferhan Hasani scored a goal in his second game after returning from the long injury.

Bregalnica and Rabotnichki played a rather unimportant game as the outcome could not change anything for both. The match ended goalless.

Renova hosted Turnovo in the decisive game for avoiding the relegation play-off spot. A goal by Ramadani ten minutes after the break gave Renova the much needed victory to over come Turnovo on the table. Now, with one round left, Renova needs only a win over the last-placed and already relegated team of Mladost.

The duel between the two already relegated teams ended in a 4:0 win for the home side Metalurg.
