Vanche Shikov will officially join Austria Wien on 1 July after his contract with Volyn expires on 30 June.  Austria Wien was looking for a central defender after losing Kaja Rogulj this summer, and they swooped in for Shikov who moves to Austria as a free agent.

Gerald Baumgartner, the new Austria Wien manager for this upcoming season, made a brief statement to newspaper LAOLA1.at about Shikov, “With him, we get a very good addition.”

Austria Wien does have a Macedonian assistant coach in Renato Gligoroski who recommended Shikov to management.  After then watching tape and scouting him, the Austrian club decided to pounce on Shikov.  Austria Wien finished in 4th place last season, just barely missing out on a place in a European competition.

Austria Wien is the second most successful club in Austria, having won the league title on 24 occasions.  They only trail in-city rival Rapid Wien in the category as Rapid has hosted the trophy 32 times in its history.
