Valmir Nafiu secures transfer to APOEL

Nafiu sporting the APOEL jerseyThe rumors have proven to be true as Valmir Nafiu officially completed his move to APOEL on Tuesday.

The newspapers in Cyprus proved to be right after they linked Valmir Nafiu with APOEL last week. Nafiu, 20, was introduced as the second winter signing for APOEL on Tuesday. Later in the day, he will hold his first training for his new club.

Nafiu, a member of the Macedonian U21 national team, continues to be a beneficiary of coach Thorsten Fink (named APOEL manager last month). Fink has now signed Valmir for three different clubs. Fink first brought Nafiu to Basel (from Shkendija), then took him to Hamburg and now APOEL. Nafiu had not shown much during his time with Basel and Hamburg, but it’s obvious that Fink sees something in Valmir. We shall see if Nafiu rewards Fink for that trust.

The last Macedonian internationals to play for APOEL were Ivan Trichkovski and Boban Grncharov. Both of those guys were fan favorites, especially Trichkovski, and now the club’s supporters will be hoping that Nafiu also proves worthy of this signing.
