A pyrrhic win for the young Macedonians as they finished 3rd and therefore failed to advance to the elite qualifying round.
The Macedonian U19 national football team ended the 2015 EURO qualifications very early. Despite hosting the tournament, Macedonia finished on the 3rd place behind France and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This is surely a big disappointment as the team was striving for the top two places in order to advance to the elite round of the qualifications.
After the defeat by France in the opening round, the young Lynxes failed to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina which today proved to be the crucial mistake. They did beat Liechtenstein with 5:1, but it was a pyrrhic win as Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to get a goalless draw against the unmotivated and already qualified team of France.
Liechtenstein stunned the Macedonians with their first goal in the qualifications thanks to Jens Hofer’s 20th minute free kick goal. Still the Lynxes later turned the result into their favor by scoring 5 goals (36′ Valentin Kochoski, 51′ (pen), 52′, 82′ Dorian Babunski, 90’+3 Petar Petkovski).
Macedonia: Gjorgjev; Alomerovikj, Amanovikj, Terziev (33′ Sulejmanov), Bocevski; Petkovski, Cheshmedjiev, Demir; Kochoski (69′ Kostadinov), Chavoli (60′ Krezikj), Babunski (C).
