Trickovski rested by APOEL

Ivan Trickovski was rested and did not play for APOEL during today’s 3:1 win over Alki Larnaca.

The APOEL manager Ivan Jovanović decided to rest Macedonian international Ivan Trickovski so he can be fully ready for this upcoming Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Zenit.  Trickovski just returned to APOEL after playing in two EURO 2012 qualifiers for the Macedonian national team so Jovanović decided that it was best to rest him for today’s game against Alki.

The Cypriot football association moved this game to Friday so APOEL will have enough time to get ready for Zenit.  Keep in mind that APOEL hosts the defending Russian champions Zenit this upcoming Tuesday during a Champions League encounter.  The other two teams in APOEL’s group are Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk.

As for today’s game, APOEL’s opponents Alki also featured a Macedonian player in Nikola Gligorov.  He was given the start and played all 90 minutes as Alki suffered their second consecutive loss to open the season.  However, their first two opponents were the two best teams in Cyprus, Omonia and APOEL, so things will get easier for them in the future.  APOEL scored their goals in the 3rd, 60th, and 90th minute while Alki scored their lone goal in the 85th minute.  APOEL now has four points after two rounds while as mentioned before, Alki remains without a point after losing the first two games.
