Legia Warszawa, one of the most storied clubs in Poland, is the new home of Ivan Trichkovski. He officially signed a 1 year contract on Monday with the option to extend it for an additional two seasons. Trichkovski moves to Legia as a free agent.

Ivan last played for Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates. That proved to be a bad decision by “Trichko” as he was removed from the team this past January. His last competitive match came on January 16, so he hasn’t played an actual game in 7 months. Only 4 foreigners are allowed per team in the United Arab Emirates, and Al-Nasr decided to replace Trichkovski in January although he was productive in terms of goals and assists. Trichkovski initially joined Al-Nasr to reunite with his former APOEL manager Ivan Jovanovic. That coach is still in charge of Al-Nasr.

On Legia’s official website, Trichkovski said, “I wanted to once again play in the Champions League or Europa League, which is why Legia was a dream come true. Legia is the biggest club in Poland, so this is a huge challenge and a step up in my career.”

Trichkovski, 28, arrived in Poland last Friday. He underwent an extensive medical over the weekend before personal terms were reached on Monday. Legia recruited Ivan after a key winger suffered a serious injury. They had a need there, so they went after the Macedonian footballer.

Ivan could be registered by Legia for their Europa League play-off matchup against Zorya, a team from Ukraine. A club can register one new player per round at least 24 hours before the first leg. With the deal being made official today, Legia will have the opportunity to do just that since the first leg against Zorya is scheduled for Thursday.

With Trichkovski returning to a European league, it’s possible that he will once again become a candidate to rejoin the Macedonian national team. He was formerly a key member of the squad, but Ivan asked not to be called up by Macedonia as long as he was based in Dubai. He cited Al-Nasr’s schedule and the drastic differences in climate as the main reasons for that.
