Metalurg, Teteks and Bregalnica Shtip were the three teams who clinched spots in the Macedonian Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.
Teteks, the defending domestic cup champion from the 2012-13 season, reached the semi-finals of this year’s edition by overcoming Napredok 2:1 on aggregate. After the first leg finished 0:0 in Tetovo, Teteks went on the road in Kichevo to collect a slim 1:2 victory. Filip Petkovski and Bobi Bozhinovski were the goalscorers to lead Teteks to the next round. Napredok managed a late goal to make for a nervy finish, but Teteks ultimately held on to advance to the semi-finals.
Metalurg, who defeated Drita 0:3 in the first leg on the road, dominated their opponent once again by winning 7:1 in the return leg today. 21-year-old striker Marko Simonovski led the way for Metalurg by notching a hat-trick, Blagoja Naumovski netted a brace, while Filip Ristovski and Zoran Vujovic added one goal apiece. Drita, meanwhile, scored its lone goal from a penalty.
The most closely contested game of the day, between Shkendija and Bregalnica in Tetovo, finished 1:1 which was enough for the Shtip based club to claim a 3:2 aggregate victory. Bregalnica won the first leg of the matchup 2:1. In today’s return leg, Bregalnica got an early goal from Goran Zdravkov to take the lead before Shkendija scored an equalizer through Artim Polozhani. However, that was the final goal and not enough for Shkendija to overcome the first leg deficit.
Pelister and Rabotnichki, who comprise the last matchup of the domestic cup quarter-finals, will play the return leg at a later date. As a reminder, Pelister won the first leg 1:0 in Bitola and will defend that narrow lead in the return leg.
