Samir Fazli suffers knee injury

Striker Samir Fazli had to depart yesterday’s friendly for the youth team of Heerenveen with a knee injury.

The Heerenveen youth team played a friendly on Tuesday against the U23 team of German side Bayer Leverkusen.  Fazli, 22, started in attack for Heerenveen and played until the 69th minute when an injury forced him to depart the game.  Heerenveen would go on to lose the game 2:1.

Fazli will undergo tests in the next few days to determine the severity of the injury.  Heerenveen has already ruled him out for this weekend’s game against PSV Eindhoven.  Samir has made just four league appearances this season, all coming as a 2nd half substitute.

This is the final year on Fazli’s contract with Heerenveen, and he is expected to have a new team next season.  He was never able to establish himself and has made minimal impact with the first team.  Samir joined Heerenveen back in 2009 from Makedonija Gjorche Petrov, and is currently the second longest tenured played on the current roster of the Dutch club.
