Team of the month – May

Team of the month for MayAfter reviewing the performances of Macedonian football players over the month of May, we put a list of the best starting 11 during that span.  We compiled stats such as games played, goals, assists, and clean sheets to decide which players deserved to be on the team.  Keep in mind that many leagues across Europe ended in early to mid May so some of the bigger names simply did not have enough games played to make the list.

The Macedonian starting 11 for the month of May will be a 4-2-3-1 formation that includes the following players:

Darko Tofiloski
Played in five games during the month of May and kept three clean sheets to help his team Košice avoid relegation in Slovakia.

Goran Dimovski
Became a really good addition for Dacia who became champions in Moldova.  He played as an attacking minded RB for Dacia and provided many dangerous crosses from the right.  He is also helped by a lack of depth at RB as Vlade Lazarevski is without a team while Aleksandar Todorovski is not playing for refusing to sign a contract extension.

Daniel Mojsov
His performance in the Serbian Cup final pretty much earned him a place on the team of the month for May.  He scored one goal and had another goal wrongly disallowed for offside.  Mojsov was also named as the best defender in the Serbian top division.

Goran Gancev
Most of the centre-backs on our national team play in either Germany or Cyprus and their seasons ended in early to mid May so they didn’t have enough games to qualify for the team of the month.  Gancev played in six games for Velež this month and their defense has played much better once Gancev joined the team during the second half of the season.

Goran Popov
Played in three games for Dynamo Kyiv this month including the Ukrainian Cup final against Shakhtar Donetsk.  He was rested in a couple of games but the lack of depth at LB helped Popov win a place on the team.  Aleksandar Lazevski did not play a single game this month because of an injury and we don’t have much at the position besides these two guys.

Velice Sumulikoski
Scored a goal and played in seven games during the month of May.  His club Sibir has played much better recently and they have moved up to 6th place on the standings.

Muhamed Demiri
Solid performer for Thun as he was a regular and played a big part in his team finishing 5th on the table, a year after Thun was promoted to the top Swiss division.

Bajram Fetai
Became a regular for Lyngby and scored two goals as his good form in May helped his club avoid relegation.  Fetai played in six games this month but unfortunately suffered an injury in the last game of the season on 29 May 2011.

Darko Tasevski
Performed the playmaker role effectively by scoring one goal and providing two assists during the month in seven games.  Levski managed to finish 2nd on the table in Bulgaria behind Litex Lovech.

Besart Ibraimi
Established himself in May by becoming a regular starter for Sevastopol and Ibraimi managed to score two goals and also had an assist during the month.  His team eventually got relegated but Ibraimi did his part and made a name for himself in Ukraine.

Jovan Kostovski
Played in five games during the month of May and scored two goals along with an assist to help his team Orduspor get promoted to the top division in Turkey.
