Defensive midfielder Veliche Shumulikoski has returned to Slovácko after failing to latch on with a club in Asia.
Shumulikoski, the second most capped player in the history of the Macedonian national team, has returned to the Czech Republic with FC Slovácko after he couldn’t latch on with a club in Asia. At the conclusion of the 2012-13 Czech season, newspapers reported that Shumulikoski, who became a free agent in the summer, was looking to return to China where he previously played for Tianjin Teda. At 32 years old, Veliche was looking for a lucrative contract as he winds down his career. However, an agreement could not be reached so Shumulikoski has opted to rejoin Slovácko.
Over the past five days, Shumulikoski has played in two games for the Slovácko junior team. He played all 90 minutes and also scored a goal in a 2:1 Slovácko junior win over Sigma Olomouc on 1 August, and today Veliche played the entire game in a 2:0 junior win over Hradec Králové. Since Shumulikoski has been without a club for around two months, he will initially play for the junior Slovácko team to build up his fitness levels before rejoining the first team. That was also the case last season when he first played for the junior team, after being without a club for months, and then joined the first team. In total, Veliche made 7 league appearances for Slovácko last season.
In Czech newspapers earlier in the summer, Slovácko manager Svatopluk Habanec was quoted as saying that he wanted Shumulikoski to return as he praised his leadership qualities that he brought to a young team. The 2013-14 Czech season has already gotten under way with three rounds having been played so far. Slovácko has compiled three points from their opening three games.
