Since ownership has not been happy with Shkendija’s play, manager Ardian Kozniku was let go on Friday.
On its website, Shkendija says that the club and Kozniku agreed to mutually part ways. Shkendija is coming off a bitter 1:0 home loss against local rival Teteks, so the team decided to take action. Even before that game, the team had been playing poorly and below the expectations of ownership.
So, Shkendija decided to take a few days in evaluating the situation, not wanting to make a rushed decision. However, management still leaned toward sacking Kozniku on Friday, so the decision was made to sack their head coach during the international break.
Jeton Beqiri was named the new manager. Beqiri was promoted after serving as an assistant under Kozniku. He also managed their B team as well. Beqiri has been with Shkendija for several years, also serving as an assistant under the previous two coaches. The ownership group decided to give him a contract until the end of next season.
