Shkendija lifts the Super Cup

Shkendija is the winner of the historic first edition of the Macedonian Super Cup after they beat Metalurg with 2:1.

Finally Macedonia got a Super Cup. The first edition was played today at the national Arena Philip II of Macedon in Skopje between the two best clubs from the season 2010/2011. Shkendija from Tetovo as winner of the First League and Metalurg from Skopje as winner of the Macedonian Cup. The game was broadcasted live on MTV. Both teams played with combined squads as few players had to be rested because of the European games in the past week.

The match had a great start as in the 6th minutes the score was opened. Metalurg’s defender Goran Dragović fouled Ersen Sali in the box and the referee whistled awarding Shkendija a penalty. Nebi Mustafi converted the penalty for a 1:0 lead. Metalurg failed to tie the score and the first half ended with Shkendija leading.

In the second half Metalurg tried to score but instead Shkendija doubled the lead. The goal came in the 84th minute with Ersen Sali’s goal. Only three minutes later Metalurg scored for 2:1 after a great free kick by Ljubomir Stevanović. In the 88th minute Marko Simonovski missed the whole goal from 5 meters, while Petar Ljamcevski a minute later scored but the goal was ruled out for offside.
