Austria’s biggest derby between Vienna rivals Austria and Rapid ended in a 2:1 win for the team that features Macedonian central defender Vanche Shikov. The defender started the game and played the full 90 minutes, leaving a big mark on the match.

Rapid had a 1:0 lead since the 17th minute when Steffen Hofmann got on the scoresheet, while Shikov’s team equalized deep into the first half stoppage time thanks to Lukas Rotpuller. In the 73rd minute, Austria was down to 10 men as Christian Ramsebner was sent off as he collected his second yellow card.

However, Austria kept attacking and six minutes before the final whistle, Vanche Shikov headed home a ball sent by Raphael Holzhauser’s free kick past Rapid keeper Ján Novota. The fans of Austria went into delirium as the Macedonian celebrated with his teammates. Despite being a man down, Austria managed to keep the result by defending well and also having a bit of luck as Athanasios Petsos hit the post late in the match. Thus, Austria won the 312th edition of the Wiener Derby.

It was the second consecutive start for Shikov since he previously missed the two prior games (Austria lost both). This season, he played 18 games in the Austrian Bundesliga, playing the full 90 minutes in 16 of them. The derby goal was his first for Austria.
