First time in the competition’s history a club has managed to defend the title. Last year Rockdale won the tournament after beating Bankstown City with 2:0 in the final game and this year they did the same, winning with the same score, but against co-hosts Wollongong United. Rockdale had a 1:0 lead on half-time thanks to Blake Ricciuto’s goal and decided the winner early after the break after a great solo-run by Peter Makrillos.

Highlights of the final can be seen here.

To reach the final Rockdale had to play extra time against the surprise of Sydenham Park after the game ended 1:1. A game winner was scored by Daniel Petkovski. In the other semi-final Wollongong eliminated Altona with 3:1.

This is the 4th title for Rockdale as they have also won the editions in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Two titles has Altona Magic, while Bankstown City and Arncliffe Scots have one each.

The men’s over 35 tournament was won by Bankstown City after defeating Rockdale City Suns in the final, while the women’s edition was claimed by Illawarra Stingrays who celebrated over Bankstown City with 2:0. It is interesting to note that former Macedonian national team player Toni Micevski played for Rockdale in the over 35 category.

The next edition in 2017 will be held in Sydney with co-hosts being holders Rockdale City Suns along with Bankstown City.
