With a comfortable 3:0 win over Box Hill United, the Lions secured the table top in the very last round. Preston only needed a draw to take the trophy, but ended the season in style.
Now they finally got promoted to the National Premier Leagues Victoria 2, the third tier of the Australian football pyramid. They wanted to do that two seasons ago, but the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled both 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Although Preston Lions is the most famous Australian club with Macedonian background, it is Altona Magic who is playing on a highest level in the state of Victoria, where the Lions belong. Altona Magic finished 11th in the National Premier Leagues Victoria (2nd Australian league) this season and manged to avoid relegation.
“We will fight for the top again. We will have big help from Sasha Ognenovski with his experience, as he will be our technical director. With a good squad, quality preparations and support from our fans our ambitions remain the same – to fight for the top” – said Ljupche Acevski, coach of the Lions.
