Trickovski compared to Andriy Yarmolenko

Ivan Trickovski; photo: shakhtar.comMacedonian international Goran Popov, who plays his club football in Ukraine, has compared Ivan Trickovski to one of best young Ukrainian players in Andriy Yarmolenko.

Ivan Trickovski conducted an interview with the official website of Shakhtar Donetsk.  Trickovski with his club team APOEL are currently in Ukraine as they get ready for tomorrow’s Champions League encounter against Shakhtar Donetsk.  The website of the Ukrainian club published an interview with Trickovski regarding the game and Goran Popov comparing him to Andriy Yarmolenko.

Trickovski was asked about his expectations for tomorrow’s match against Shakhtar.  Trickovski answered by saying, “We know that Shakhtar Donetsk is a very good team with a lot of class players.  However, we will do our best to play to our full potential in order to receive an acceptable result.”

Trickovski said that an acceptable result would be anything other than a defeat.  Of course, APOEL would love to win but a draw would also not be a bad result  for the Cypriot club, especially being on the road and already winning their first game in their group against Zenit.

The final question by the Shakhtar Donetsk website was Trickovski’s opinion about Macedonian international Goran Popov comparing Trickovski to Andriy Yarmolenko, considered a big star in Ukraine at only 21 years old.  Popov and Yarmolenko are teammates at Dynamo Kyiv.  Yarmolenko has also been compared to well known Ukrainian player Andriy Shevchenko who made his name at Milan.

Trickovski said, “Thanks to Popov for the kind works.  It’s a nice comparison.  Yarmolenko is a very good football player.  But what else can I say?  I’m constantly working on my game and always look to improve as a player.”

Early in the summer, Popov gave statements to newspapers in Ukraine that he recommended Trickovski to the Dynamo Kyiv management as a player to sign in the summer.  However, the Ukrainian giants decided to sign striker Ideye Brown from French club Sochaux.

Trickovski was then linked with Scottish club Rangers but the transfer fee remained a problem so Tricko stayed put at APOEL.  The Cypriot club made the group stages of the Champions League so they were pretty pleased that they did not sell Trickovski since he played a big part in their success.  However, if APOEL gets eliminated from the competition by January, there are indications that Trickovski would be available on the market.  Ivan has enjoyed his time with APOEL but feels he is ready for a step up in his career that would allow him to play in a better league.
