Pelister players begin strike due to unpaid wages

More problems for PelisterFK Pelister, the only team without a loss in the second division, has seen its players go on strike due to unpaid wages.

Pelister, one of the storied brands in Macedonian football, continues to experience problems. On Thursday, the club’s players began a strike since they haven’t been paid in three months. The players refused to train and have threatened to boycott Saturday’s scheduled game against Pobeda.

Pelister vs. Pobeda is one of the matchups in Round 12 of the second division. However, after the strike of the players, the status of that match is very much in doubt.

Despite the difficult financial environment, Pelister has somehow managed to stay undefeated in the current campaign. They have amassed three wins and eight draws after 11 rounds, but the situation has reached a boiling point. The players have had enough.

“Cermat,” an ice cream company, has been a complete disaster as the major sponsor of Pelister. The fans of the club despise Zoran Ristevski, the owner of “Cermat,” for breaking promises and not investing in the club. Ristevski and the mayor of Bitola are viewed as the main culprits for the plight of Pelister.

Sadly, this is a common occurrence on the Macedonian football scene. A number of teams don’t honor contracts and the players don’t have a union to protect them.
