Napoli manager Rafa Benitez decided to start Goran Pandev in the attacking midfield role instead of Marek Hamšík, and Pandev rewarded Benitez by scoring two 1st half goals to help Napoli take home three points.

Going up against Genoa manager Fabio Liverani, a former teammate of Pandev’s at Lazio, Goran had no mercy and scored his two goals in the 14th and 25th minute.  Winger Lorenzo Insigne played a part in both goals to set up Pandev.

In the 14th minute, after a good run by Insigne, Pandev benefited from a poor touch by Genoa midfielder Juraj Kucka to gather the ball, create space and fire a precise left footed shot to the bottom left corner.  The Genoa keeper just stood as he had no chance to save the shot.

About ten minutes later, Goran doubled the Napoli lead when Insigne played a good ball to Pandev who this time used his weaker right foot to beat the Genoa keeper.  The two goals were his first of the 2013-14 season.
