With Napoli losing 3:2, Goran Pandev was brought on in the 84th minute but the Italian club could not score the equalizer and Bayern München held on to claim all three points.

As expected, Goran Pandev started on the bench for Napoli before he entered the game in the 84th minute replacing another Macedonia born player in Blerim Dzemaili.  Pandev played for about 10 minutes, including the four minutes of stoppage time.  Goran won a couple of fouls for Napoli and was involved in one dangerous action for the visiting club.  In the third minute of stoppage time, Pandev played a nice ball to his teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi on a counter attack who then tried a low cross inside the area but a Bayern München defender was able to clear the ball for a corner.

Overall, the victory was deserving for Bayern München.  The German club controlled the 1st half and had a commanding 3:0 lead by the 42nd minute thanks to a hat trick by striker Mario Gómez.  Napoli pulled one goal back just before halftime when defender Federico Fernández scored with a header from a free kick.  Napoli did play better in the 2nd half and made the game interesting in the 79th minute when Fernández scored another goal with a header following a well taken free kick by his teammate Gökhan Inler.  Napoli then pushed forward with the hopes of scoring the equalizing goal but it wouldn’t come as both teams ended the match with 10 players.

Napoli dropped to third place in Group A of the Champions League since Manchester City defeated Villarreal 3:0 in the other game that was played today.  So, after four matchdays, Bayern München leads the way with 10 points, Manchester City is next with 7 points, Napoli has 5 points, while Villarreal is in last place without a point.  The top two teams advance to the next round so Napoli must find a way to beat Manchester City on 22 November when they host the English giants in Naples.
