Goran Pandev’s first start with Napoli did not go well as he was pretty quiet for the most part and his side suffered a disappointing 1:0 loss against Chievo.
Goran Pandev was given the start by Napoli manager Walter Mazzarri despite several Italian newspapers reporting that Pandev was doubtful for today’s game against Chievo. With Edinson Cavani being rested at the start the game, Pandev played as the lone striker up front where he was surrounded by fellow attackers Mario Santana and Giuseppe Mascara. However, Goran was nonexistent for the majority of the game and did not attempt one shot on goal. He never looks comfortable playing as a centre forward but the Napoli manager decided to field Pandev at that position. He has also struggled playing as a centre forward for the Macedonian national team as well.
In the 58th minute, with the introduction of Edinson Cavani, Pandev moved behind the striker but it did not make much of a difference as Goran was hardly noticeable. He ended up playing all 90 minutes in Napoli’s disappointing 1:0 loss against Chievo. Napoli conceded the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute after a mistake by defender Ignacio Fideleff whose attempted clearance fell directly to Chievo striker Davide Moscardelli who slotted the ball past Napoli keeper Morgan De Sanctis.
