Noveski and Mainz destroyed Köln

Defender Nikolce Noveski and Mainz picked up an important three points with a convincing 4:0 home victory over Köln.

Mainz captain Nikolce Noveski started at left CB for Mainz and played all 90 minutes as he also helped his side win a penalty in the 19th minute.  After a long free kick, Noveski went up high and won a header which he intended to pass to teammate Ádám Szalai.  However, Szalai was fouled inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot.  Eugen Polanski converted the penalty for Mainz who then scored three additional goals on their way to a 4:0 home victory.

In addition, with the three points, Mainz can now breath a little easier as the club distanced itself further from the relegation zone.  Köln occupied the last relegation spot in the Bundesliga so with this win, Mainz is now seven points ahead of Köln on the standings.
