Nikola Tonev’s contract with Sunkar ends this year and he promptly found a new club in fellow Kazakh side Tobol from Kostanay. Tonev joined Sunkar at the start of 2012 and immediately convinced paying 22 of 26 possible games, all as a starter. Sunkar tried to extend his contract but Tonev decided to sign with league competitors Tobol.

In Macedonia Tonev was part of Bregalnica Shtip, Vardar and Shkendija before moving to Czech club Baník Most. After 18 months spent there he moved to Taraz from Kazakhstan and just one year later he signed a deal with Russian side Volgar-Gazprom. Afterwards followed his second stay in Kazakhstan signing for Sunkar.

With his last transfer the 27-year-old centre back makes a step forward since Tobol is one of the most ambitious Kazakh clubs unlike Sunkar whose goal is to avoid relegation.
