Nikola Karcev signs for Yangon United

Central defender Nikola Karcev will continue his career in the Myanmar league as he signed with the current champions Yangon United.

Another Macedonian player has decided to play football in the far east.  As Dnevnik reports, the 30-year-old Nikola Karcev signed a contract with the champion of Myanmar, Yangon United.  Karcev last played for Metalac in Serbia but became a free agent after his contract was terminated.  His best career days were the four years spent at Rabotnicki where he won two league titles and was also part of a successful European campaign.

Karcev has experience playing in Asia since before he joined Metalac, Nikola used to play for Chinese second league club Shanghai East Asia.

“For someone to transfer to one of the countries on the far east isn’t popular, but from a financial point of view, that’s a great opportunity for a Macedonian footballer.  When I arrived in Myanmar, I was positively surprised from what I saw.  The football here isn’t with great quality, but it’s evolving rapidly.” – Karcev told daily newspaper Dnevnik.

With Yangon United, Karcev will also participate in the 2012 edition of the AFC Cup.  His club is in Group G with Citizen (Hong Kong), Home United (Indonesia) and another club that has yet to be determined.
