Midfielder Nikola Gligorov scored his first goal for Alki during today’s game with a nice shot from outside of the area.
Nikola Gligorov, a defensive midfielder, started for Alki and played all 90 minutes in the 4:2 victory over Olympiacos Nicosia. In the 58th minute, with Alki losing 1:2, Gligorov scored the equalizing goal with a nice shot from outside the area that went past the opposing keeper. That goal seemed to energize the Alki players as they scored two additional goals on their way to the 4:2 home victory.
Nikola Gligorov was one of the surprising names on the Macedonian squad that was recently announced by manager John Toshack for the Albania friendly on 15 November. To date, the 28-year-old Gligorov has made three appearances for the Macedonian national team.
Gligorov joined Alki earlier in the summer from fellow Cypriot club Ermis. Nikola initially signed with Ermis but the club was having financial difficulties and many of the players were released from their contracts, including Gligorov. Before deciding to continue his career in Cyprus, Gligorov spent a couple of years with Rabotnicki where he was the captain.
