Acoording to “Makedonski Sport”, after long negotiations Nikola Gjorgjev accepted the offer from FFM to represent Macedonia. He is likely to make his debut in the upcoming friendlies of the senior national team.
The first contact between Nikola Gjorgjev and FFM was realized a couple of years ago. At that time, Gjorgjev played for Switzerland’s youth national teams, something he did even until last month. To be more precise, he made his last appearance for the Swiss U19 on 25.03.2016 in the qualifications against Turkey. Switzerland lost all three games in the elite round, therefore they were eliminated of the actual U19 cycle.
The 18-year-old player grew up in Switzerland, but his parents are from Macedonia. Gjorgjev is able to play on several positions in the offense, either as a central offensive midfielder or as a winger. Until now he appeared ten times for the Grasshoppers in the Swiss Super League, let’s hope that much more games will follow and that his decision to represent Macedonia won’t have a negative impact on his club career in Switzerland.
