Valmir Nafiu along with his teammate Gojko Kacar have been informed by Hamburger SV that they will be sold during the winter transfer window.  Neither player made the trip for the club’s winter preparations, which will make stops in Indonesia and Abu Dhabi.  Hamburger SV manager Bert van Marwijk did not have use for either player.

The 19-year-old Valmir Nafiu, who has been capped for the U17, U19 and U21 teams of Macedonia, joined Hamburger SV back in August of 2012 from Swiss side Basel.  He was brought over to Germany by Thorsten Fink who was named Hamburger SV manager in October of 2011.  Previously, Fink was manager of Basel and he was still there when Nafiu transferred to the Swiss club from Shkendija.  So, Fink was familiar with Nafiu and decided to bring Valmir to Germany in the summer of 2012.  However, due to bad results, Fink was dismissed by Hamburger SV in September of 2013, and then Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk took charge of the club.  Marwijk, meanwhile, had no use for Nafiu, leading to the decision to attempt to offload the player in the winter transfer window.

This season, Nafiu was included just twice in the Hamburger SV matchday squad, but both times he stayed on the bench and didn’t get a chance to play.  Valmir had a contract with Hamburger SV until the end of the current season, but with him not being in the club’s plans, it’s better for Nafiu to be sold in January than to go another six months with no playing time.

As previously mentioned, the Tetovo born winger has been capped for several of the youth national teams of Macedonia.  Nafiu debuted for the U21 team in March of last year, which is still his lone appearance for that team, while featuring in 5 games for the U19 team and 16 matches for the U17.  In those 16 encounters, Nafiu has scored a total of 11 goals.
