Muhamed Demiri ends up in Swiss third tier

Muhamed Demiri, who will turn 30 years old later this year, has signed with BSC Old Boys in the Swiss third division. Demiri wanted to stay close to his home in Basel, so he decided to join local side BSC Old Boys since he received little interest from teams in the top two divisions. It is a rather shocking move as Muhamed was a regular fixture in the Swiss top flight for the past six seasons with both Thun and then St. Gallen.

The defensive midfielder became a free agent this summer after St. Gallen declined to offer him a new contract. Muhamed saw limited playing time in the 2014-15 campaign, something that contributed to him receiving little interest on the open market. Demiri waited and waited, but he remained unsigned. Now, with the month of September nearing its midway point, Muhamed has chosen to sign with BSC Old Boys. He will aim to improve his fitness and raise his stock among better teams when the transfer market opens again in January.

Demiri debuted for the Macedonian national team back in 2010, under then manager Mirsad Jonuz. He quickly became a regular starter, accumulating 25 caps in the process. His last call-up, however, came in November of 2014. That will likely not change anytime soon with Muhamed now playing his club football in the third division of Switzerland.

Muhamed will be eligible to play his first game for Old Boys next weekend.
