Midweek internationals performances

Aco Stojkov scores for Aarau in a friendly against Rapid Wien, while Velice Sumulikoski faces an uncertain future as he was not on the bench once again for Preston North End.

Italy, Coppa Italia, Inter – Juventus 2:1
Goran Pandev started for Inter alongside Mario Balotelli up front and Pandev showed good vision and creativity as he set up good chances for Balotelli and Maicon but otherwise Pandev didn’t attempt a shot on goal before he was substituted in the 80th minute with Sulley Muntari.  Juve opened the scoring through Brazilian Diego with a lucky goal as it was a blunder by Inter keeper Toldo who should of done better.  Inter equalized in the 71st minute with a goal by Lucio who was at the right place at the right time as he tapped in a Wesley Sneijder deflected free kick before Mario Balotelli gave Inter the win in the 88th minute.

England, League Championship, Peterborough United – Preston North End 0:1
Velice Sumulikoski for the second straight game was not even on the bench for Preston.  Preston’s new manager Darren Ferguson signed two players from the youth team and mentioned they could be busy on the transfer market and that possibly some players might leave.  Sumulikoski could be one of those guys as he doesn’t appear to be in Ferguson’s plans.

France, Coupe de France, Auxerre – Sedan 1:1
Robert Popov was not among the 18 players called up by Auxerre.  Auxerre advances to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France as they won 3:0 on penalties after it was 1:1 after 120 minutes.

Cyprus, Cypriot Cup, Ethnikos Achnas – APOEL 0:4
Edin Nuredinoski and Vance Sikov played all 90 minutes for the home team who had a 2:0 aggregate advantage coming into this game but APOEL was up 2:0 after 90 minutes so they went into extra time and APOEL scored two goals in the 97th and 114th minute so they advance to the next round.  Slavco Georgievski could not play in this game because the cup draw was made before January and he wasn’t on the roster for Ethnikos back then so he couldn’t play.  Boban Grncarov did not play for APOEL.

Cyprus, Cypriot Cup, APEP – AEL 0:0
Vlatko Grozdanoski didn’t play for AEL because of an injury.  He was examined by a team doctor who told Grozdanoski that he will be out for three weeks.

Belgium, Belgian Cup, Cercle Brugge – Anderlecht 1:0
Igor Gjuzelov started on the bench for Cercle and came on in the 81st minute replacing Vusumuzi Nyoni.  Anderlecht won the first leg 2:1 at home but lost 1:0 on the road so Cercle will advance.  It was 2:2 on aggregate but Cercle scored the all important away goal.

Club Friendly, Aarau – Magna Wr Neustadt 1:1
Aco Stojkov played until the 89th minute for Aarau when he was replaced by fellow Macedonian Orhan Mustafi who is on loan to Aarau from Basel.  Stojkov scored a good goal but the refs waived it off unfairly as they thought he was in an offside position.  For Magna Wr Neustadt, Macedonia born Mensur Kurtisi played all 90 minutes.

Club Friendly, Aarau – Rapid Wien 1:2
Aarau played another friendly as they prepare for the 2nd half of the Swiss League against the current leaders from Austria.  Aco Stojkov started for Aarau and scored in the 36th minute to tie the game at 1:1.  Rapid Wien scored a goal two minutes later to take the lead and they went on to win 2:1.  Stojkov played until the 58th minute.
