Round 10

Macedonian First League – Round 10

Round 10Metalurg and Vardar played a 1:1 draw in a matchup of the top two teams on the table, Teteks defeated Shkendija 2:0 in the heated Tetovo derby, while Rabotnicki suffered a surprising home loss against Ohrid.

Metalurg and Vardar could only play a 1:1 draw so Vardar retained their two point advantage over today’s opponents at the top of the table.  Vardar took the lead in the 13th minute when captain Filip Ivanovski converted a penalty following a Metalurg defender using his hand inside the area.  Vardar was the better side in the 1st half as they created more quality chances and had the deserving 1:0 lead going into halftime.  Metalurg played better in the 2nd half and was finally rewarded in the 63rd minute when their captain Mile Krstev scored with a header past the Vardar keeper.  That turned out to be the final goal of the game as Krstev ensured that the new Metalurg manager Gjorgi Hristov began his managerial career with at least a draw.

In the other highly anticipated match of the round, Teteks was able to record a 2:0 victory over heated rivals Shkendija in Tetovo.  Teteks scored the opening goal in the 1st minute through Borce Ristovski as the Shkendija players seemed stunned and were unable to bounce back.  Teteks put the game away in the 78th minute when Aleksandar Stojanovski scored to make it 2:0 for the home team.  The match did not finish without incidents as there was pushing and showing towards the end of the game and both the goalscorer Aleksandar Stojanovski and Shkendija defender Ilir Elmazovski were shown red cards in the 90th minute.  Not a good debut for the new Shkendija manager Nedzat Shabani who lost his first game in charge against a heated rival.

Meanwhile, a shocking result occurred in Skopje as Rabotnicki lost 1:2 at home against Ohrid.  The visitors have been in disarray with unpaid wages and premiums but they somehow defeated Rabotnicki on the road.  The match was supposed to be played at the Cair Stadium but there were some technical problems so the game was eventually moved to the Phillip II Arena.

In the other games, 11 Oktomvri suffered another loss by losing 2:1 against Sileks in a match played in Struga while Napredok held Renova to a 1:1 draw in Kicevo.  Talented youngster Dejan Cvetanoski scored a goal in the 81st minute to salvage a point for Napredok.  In the only game scheduled for tomorrow, Horizont Turnovo will host Bregalnica at 14:00 CET.
