Macedonian Cup Round of 16 return legs

Macedonian CupRabotnicki eliminated Cup holders Metalurg on penalties, same as Bregalnica Stip who pulled off a big surprise by overcoming Shkendija’s advantage from the first game.  No second division side remains in the competition after this round.

The most interesting game took place in Stip where Bregalnica managed a 2:0 win in regulation against the defending league champions Shkendija.  However, since Shkendija won with the same result in the first leg, penalties decided this encounter.  The home players converted three penalties while Shkendija failed on every penalty so Bregalnica managed to advance to the next round of the competition. First captain Nebi Mustafi hit the post, while Bregalnica’s keeper Aleksandar Alcinov saved Ilir Elmazovski’s and Ardijan Cuculi’s shots.

Another game ended in a penalty shoot-out.  The highest profile clash of the round, Metalurg against Rabotnicki, ended with the same goalless draw as in the first leg.  Muarem Muarem received two quick yellow cards in the first half and left Rabotnicki with 10 men.  Later, Borce Manevski scored a goal which was unfairly disallowed by the referee for being offside.  In the second half, Manevski was again in the center of the action when he was fouled inside the area but he then missed the penalty as his shot hit the post.  During the penalty shoot-outs, Rabotnicki’s players converted all the penalties, while Serbian international Ljubomir Stefanović missed for Metalurg which meant that Rabotnicki advanced to the next round and eliminated the defending domestic cup champions.

Napredok confirmed the first leg advantage against Miravci with another win, this time on the road.  Kiril Stepanovski, Zekiri and Mihajlovski scored the goals for the visitors, while Popov and Atanasov were on target for Miravci for a final score of 2:3 and an aggregate win of 6:3 for Napredok.

Renova bounced back and noted a huge win against second league side Gostivar after losing the first leg 0:1 at home.  This time, Renova came to play and scored five goals to easily defeat Gostivar.  Jancevski and Bajrami scored two goals apiece for Renova with Metodija Stepanovski scoring the other goal.  Meanwhile, Dzaferi only managed to score a consolation goal for the hosts.  In the end, Renova won today’s game 5:1 and advanced 5:2 on aggregate.

Filip Petrov of Vardar continued to be a nightmare for Tikves.  After scoring four of the six goals in the first leg, Petrov scored the lone goal today in the second leg for a 0:1 win for Vardar who easily advanced to the next round of the Macedonian Cup.

Horizont Turnovo made sure no Second League side advanced to the quarter finals by getting past Pelister.  Turnovo defended a 1:0 lead from the first leg, but the lead was gone in the 54th minute when Pelister defender Hristijan Dragarski reacted quickly following a corner kick from the left side and sent the ball into the back of the net.  However, Todi Vasilev responded for Turnovo and scored the equalizer to eliminate Pelister and lead his team into the quarter finals.

The 8th team in the quarter finals will either be 11 Oktomvri or Skopje.  The match is scheduled for tomorrow at 14.30 CET and 11 Oktomvri sits comfortably with a 4:0 advantage from the first leg.
