Korzo officially becomes Shkupi

Eventually, the long anticipated name change occurred and Second League side Shkupi will play under that name moving forward.

After the merger with Korzo in order to play in the Second League, Shkupi was forced to play under the name of the now dissolved club Korzo in the first half of the season. Now, though, the name Shkupi has been brought back and the club from Skopje can play under that name in the future.

Shkupi is actually the old and famous club Sloga Jugomagnat, three times winners of the Macedonian League and Cup. The troubles for them began in the 2009/10 season when together with Makedonija GjP they were disqualified after not playing in two games. The club was then inactive for a couple of seasons, but a new club named Albarsa was formed and it was using the Chair stadium. Last season, Albarsa won the Third League North and a formal merger with Sloga Jugomagnat was completed, but the team lost the promotion play-off against Tiverija that led to the Second League to. In order to become part of the Second League, another merger took place, this time with Prilep based club Korzo who was facing a difficult financial position.

The club also has a new logo which you can see by visiting the club’s profile here.
