Cedomir Janevski is on the verge of being named the Ethnikos Achnas manager after Toza Šapurić was sacked following the poor start to the season.
As Cypriot newspapers are reporting, Ethnikos Achnas sacked manager Toza Šapurić following a poor start to the season and the favorite to replace him is Macedonian Cedomir Janevski. Newspapers are even reporting that Janevski was spotted during Monday’s game between Ethnikos Achnas and Olympiacos Nicosia. After Ethnikos Achnas lost that game 1:0, the manager was sacked and the speculation is that Janevski is expected to take over the club from Šapurić.
The 50-year-old Janevski knows football in Cyprus as he formerly managed Enosis Neon Paralimni from 2009 to 2011. He was also a candidate for Anorthosis but they ultimately chose Israeli coach Ronny Levy to succeed Stanimir Stoilov. Janevski was also considered for the Macedonian national team but FFM wanted a foreign coach so they decided to hire John Toshack.
While managing Enosis, Janevski brought several Macedonian players to the team in Ivan Trickovski, Bojan Markoski, and Krste Velkoski. Janevski was credited with resurrecting Trickovski’s career as he took Tricko on loan at Enosis after Ivan was not playing at Crvena Zvezda. Trickovski’s good form during the one year loan with Enosis led to his transfer to APOEL. Meanwhile, his other Macedonian signing Bojan Markoski is considered one of the best defenders in Cyprus while Krste Velkoski did not do well with Enosis which led to his contract being mutually terminated. Velkoski then returned to Rabotnicki. Keep in mind that Petar Milosevski also played for Enosis but he was there even before Janevski became the manager.
If Janevski becomes the manager of Ethnikos Achnas, as expected, Janevski will have two Macedonians on the team in Edin Nuredinoski and Stojan Ignjatov. Nuredinoski is the first choice keeper for Ethnikos Achnas while Ignjatov plays in midfield.
Ethnikos Achnas is currently in 12th place out of 14 teams in the Cypriot top division with only 2 points after five rounds. The next game for Ethnikos Achnas is on 15 October when they face Apollon.
