Ivanovski, Velkovski took home awards for 2011/12 season

The best in 2011/12: Filip Ivanovski (L) and Darko Velkovski (R)Filip Ivanovski as Best Player and Darko Velkovski as Best Young Player took home the awards in the 2011/12 season of the Macedonian First League.

The same two players that were chosen by our fans as best players for the same award during the first half of the season managed to hold on and were rewarded as best for the entire 2011/12 season in the First League.

Filip Ivanovski was an easy choice as the overall best player.  His 24 goals in 32 league matches brought many points to Vardar who eventually won the league title.  The Macedonian champion scored 50 goals this past season, nearly half of them coming from the popular Ficho, plus he added 4 assists as well.  Since Ivanovski was undoubtedly the top player in the 2011/12 season, MacedonianFootball.com presented him the award without a vote since that was not necessary.

On the other hand, the Best Young Player of the Season award was a more difficult decision.  MacedonianFootball.com decided to declare the winner after two rounds of votes on our Forum.  In the first round, members nominated 3 players who they felt were the most deserving for the award.  Four players tied at the top with the same number of points so they proceeded to the final round.  Those four were: Goran Siljanovski (21, Renova), Darko Velkovski (17, Rabotnichki), Dragan Gjorgiev (21, Turnovo) and Darko Stojanov (22, Bregalnica Shtip).  In the final round, Velkovski edged his other three competitors to be voted the Best Young Player of the 2011/12 season.

“I am very happy that I won this award.  These awards mean so much to me, they give me motivation to continue the hard work.” – commented the popular Dare after being informed of the decision.  We also asked him about Rabotnichki’s ambitions for next season: “This summer, we will work intensely preparing for next season.  We are hoping that we will be able to conquer a place that leads to a European competition since we missed out on that last season.”
