Interview with Kiril Kotevski

How did you became a coach since you started your coaching career so early?

– I ended my playing career before I was even 18, but my love for football wasn't gone. As soon as I stopped playing I got back to my first club AB København, where they offered me to become a coach of their third youth team. I accepted the offer although the team was very weak and I started my coaching career as a very unexperienced coach. It's a fact that the difference between a player and a coach is huge and you can't in any case compare this two. It's no a garantee that if you are a good player that you will be a good coach too because as a coach you have much more responsibility rather thn as a palyer.
As I was starting my coaching career I succesfuly began progressing and passing the UEFA coaching exams, as my wish and as a wish of my club AB København. As a youngest coach I got a licence from UEFA and for which I needed a confirmation from the club that I was abble to exam. At this moment I am coach of the ABKøbenhavn youth team under 14. I must add that in my team is also my brother Goran Kotevski who also played with success in AB but ended his career because of injury, like me. That's why now as coaches of one of the best youth teams in Demnark we are showing the young tallets the secrets of the football game.

What are your successes as coach?
– I know that the successes in football are measured with results, but it's not like that in my case. I'm coaching young players and my goal is to deploy those kids into "football wizards" who can at any time answer on many tasks given by the coach. The results are not so important for me until the players turn 16-17. For me it's important, every player to learn all skills in the football. However, if we can combine those two things, I will be more than happy if we can play well and win.
In my 10-years-long coaching career, 6 times I've been champion of Denmark with different youth teams of AB and I was twice named as coach of the year for youth teams in Denmark. Last time I was named as coach of the year in 2007. I will remember last year as we didn't lose any matches and we drew only 3. We played 56 matches in the league, cup and different tournaments in Denmark and abroad. I must mention the winning of a big tournament in Holland with big competition of the teams from Holland, Germany and England. In the final we defeated West Bromwich Albion with 4:0.
Also I see as big success, the thing that some players that I've been coaching for longer time, are members or are on their way to become members to big clubs. For example, my best player Christian Andersen is on trials in Chelsea FC and there's big possibility for him to continue his career there.
