Digging into the archives of the domestic football we have came across a very interesting fact: the current president of FFM, Mr. Masar Omeragić, has scored a goal while playing against Macedonia!

What an irony that is! Probably he is the only president of an FA in the world that has scored a goal against his own national team. And we are not talking about an own goal.
Of course, at the time he was just a your player with big enthusiasm and probably never thought that one day he would be leading his country’s football federation.
We bring you the story of this unusual moment that happened more than 30 years ago.
After Macedonia gained independence from Yugoslavia did not immediately enter UEFA and FIFA. Due to the country’s flag and name issues with Greece it had to wait longer than Slovenia or Croatia, for example. FIFA was still not allowing our national team to play international matches despite the national team was formed right after the independence in September 1991. The people in charge of our football at that time found various ways for the national team to be active, playing matches against a so called journalists’ choice team, first and second league united teams and against clubs.
One such match took place on 23 April 1993 in Kratovo. The Macedonian national team played against top flight side Sileks and 24-year-old midfielder Masar Omeragić was part of Sileks at that time. He started on the bench and entered as a substitute.

The result was 2:1 for Sileks when Omeragić scored the goal. Digging in the archives of Macedonia’s oldest newspaper Nova Makedonija, this is what we found:
“Boshkovski sent a cross from the left, Dimkovski took the ball, sent a pass back where Omeragić was, who fired a ‘bomb’ and Ristevski was powerless.” Author of the text in Nova Makedonija is journalist Spase Georgievski.
It seems like the current president of FFM scored a real beauty against Macedonia. Unfortunately, there is no video of the goal.
During the half time break at Thursday’s friendly match against Latvia, we just had to ask Mr. Omeragić if he remembers.
– Mr. president, are you aware that you are probably the only FA president in the world that has actually scored a goal against his own national team?
– Yes! And it was in Kratovo. The match was broadcasted on MTV, I would love to have a video of that goal, he said.
Knowing the situation at the Macedonian Radio Television archives, we are not optimistic that they keep a recording of that match, or of any of those non FIFA matches. We hope that after reading this article they will at least check.
Back at the match, here is the match report:

*The newspaper gives only the surnames of the players so we tried to identify each player, but having in mind that this match was played before our time we were unable to identify all of them. If you have any information who are the players with * please contact us to update this precious match report. In the Macedonian team the unknown players were from these clubs: Metalurg (keeper Ristevski), Pobeda (D. Naumoski), while our opinion is that Vasovski is actually misspelled Zoran Vasevski.
