Altona Magic celebrated over holders Broadmeadow Magic to claim the top in the Group A thanks to a last minute header by Robert Stambolziev. Only Bankstown City resisted Altona’s front line as they held them to a goalless draw yesterday.
The other group saw title candidates Prestion Lions and Rockdale City Suns tied at the top with the later taking the pole position thanks to a superior goal-difference. Their clash ended goalless, both did not concede in the other three matches, by The Suns’ attack managed to score ten goals unlike the Lions’ who scored six.
Hosts Queanbeyan City managed to book a place in tomorrow’s quarter-finals after edging Cringila Lions in what happened to a crucial match for the last available spot in the next stage. But the host team will have a tough task as they will now face title favorites Altona Magic.
