Goran Popov and Dynamo Kyiv won the Ukrainian Super Cup

Dynamo Kyiv won their first trophy of the season by beating rivals Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Super Cup.

Macedonian international Goran Popov started at LB for Dynamo Kyiv and played the entire game in his team’s 3:1 win over heated rivals Shakhtar Donetsk.  Popov also picked up a yellow card in the 40th minute when a shoving match started between the two teams.  Popov and Croatian Darijo Srna pushed each other and both were given yellow cards along with two more players.  Dynamo Kyiv scored their three goals in the 5th, 32nd, and 83rd minute to record the victory.

Popov joined Dynamo Kyiv last summer from Dutch club Heerenveen and signed a 5 year deal with the famous Ukrainian club.  He struggled early in the season but really improved once Yuri Semin was named the manager of the team.  Dynamo Kyiv finished second on the table last year so they will participate in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.  They have ambitions to win the league title this season and make it to at least the group stages of the Champions League.
