The transfer saga surrounding Boban Grncarov is finally over as he has agreed to a deal with Belgian club Lierse.  Boban only signed a one year deal with an option for an additional season.  Grncarov comes to Lierse from Cypriot giants APOEL.  He initially wanted to stay with APOEL but a contract could not be agreed so both sides decided to part ways.  Grncarov spent two years with APOEL and scored eight goals in 43 appearances.  His best memories with APOEL was participating in the UEFA Champions League group stages and winning the league title last season.

Grncarov should not have a difficult time adjusting to Belgian football since one of his former teams includes Gent.  There was some recent rumors of Partizan considering Grncarov as a replacement for the soon to be sold Stefan Savić but we can now throw those rumors out since Grncarov will continue his career in Belgium.  Boban will turn 29 in about one month and is known as an uncompromising defender who is very good in the air.  He is tall and not afraid of contact but he does have trouble with little, speedy players since one of his weaknesses, like many big defenders, is a lack of speed.  He scored six goals this past season and all came on headers from corner kicks or free kicks.

His new club Lierse barely avoided relegation last season and they felt adding an experienced defender like Grncarov can help strengthen their team.  Grncarov is also a Macedonian international who has made 21 appearances for the national team with one goal against Norway in a World Cup qualifyer.  He recently overtook Igor Mitreski to become a starter at right CB partnering Nikolce Noveski in the center of our defense but he made a huge blunder in the last game of EURO 2012 qualifying against Ireland that gifted Robbie Keane a soft goal in a 2:0 victory for the Irish.
