Right back Daniel Georgievski has agreed to a 6 month contract with Steaua București, which could extend to 2 years if he meets certain provisions.
The owner of Steaua București, George Becali, confirmed the transfer of Daniel Georgievski to his club. The deal is for 6 months but can extend to 2 years if Georgievski plays in at least 10 out of 20 games during the first half of the upcoming Romanian season. If Daniel does not play in at least 10 games, he will leave.
Interestingly, Romanian newspapers reported that Steaua București was deciding between Daniel Georgievski and another Macedonian player in Vladica Brdarovski, member of the U21 national team, but the former was ultimately chosen. Georgievski is 24 years old and last played for Croatian side Šibenik who dealt with financial problems before being relegated. Daniel was one of the few bright spots on the team, and was seeking a new club this summer.
Although originally born in Australia, Georgievski decided to represent Macedonia internationally. He was formerly a regular for the U21 team and then made his debut for the senior national team under manager John Toshack in the EURO 2012 qualifier against Russia on 2 September of last year. Daniel played well in that game and has become a mainstay on the squad ever since.
As for his playing style, Georgievski possesses good speed and likes to go forward from the right back position. He also has the ability to play in right midfield if needed. Steaua București is one of the most popular teams in Romania and by finishing in 3rd place last season, they will participate in the Europa League qualifications starting in the third qualifying round.
Daniel spoke to Steaua București’s website after his signing and stated that he is happy to be joining Steaua who he considers the biggest club in Romania that consistently participates in European competitions. When asked whether he had other offers, Daniel said, “I had discussions with a Czech club and was also offered a contract by a Ukrainian club. However, I chose Steaua because it is a good club, known throughout Europe and has high ambitions.”
