Macedonia schedules friendly with Slovenia

Football federation of SloveniaThe senior national team of Macedonia will play a road friendly against Slovenia next March in the city of Koper.

Igor Angelovski, who became the permanent coach after his interim tag was removed, wants to play as many friendlies as possible before the start of the 2018 World Cup qualifications next September. He wants to install his system and build chemistry. The next official FIFA dates are from March 23-30 in 2016, and Macedonia has already arranged one friendly.

Macedonia will travel to Slovenia to face their national team on March 23 in the city of Koper. Slovenia failed to qualify for EURO 2016 after it was defeated by Ukraine, a team in Macedonia’s group, in the play-offs. Srečko Katanec, who formerly led Macedonia, is the current manager of Slovenia. The two sides have met 3 times so far, all of them being friendlies. The last meeting saw Macedonia win 3:2 in November of 2012.

The Macedonian federation is aiming to schedule additional friendlies. One more should be played in the end of March after Slovenia, but the opponent is still unknown. A deal has also been made with Iran for a friendly in Skopje on June 2, but that match has still not been confirmed at this time.
