Did you think lasts month’s 155th place is the worst Macedonia can get? Well no. From today Macedonia is the 162nd best team in the world!
You can’t climb on any table if you constantly lose. The fourth straight defeat in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, this time a 4:0 defeat by Spain, launched a new downfall for Macedonia on the newest FIFA World Ranking list. If last month we set a historic negative record, today, only after a month we managed to overtake it. Macedonia is now just 47 places away from the very bottom of the table.
The FFM did not arrange a friendly game in the date after Spain. With a win or maybe a draw we could have avoided this humiliation, but they probably didn’t want to bother. In many cases back throughout the years FFM has shown that friendly games aren’t important for them, actually not important at all. It is not the first time Macedonia not to play a friendly and a free date to pass by unused. Before the Albania qualifier there was also a free date, Albania played, we didn’t. FFM must change this stubborn behavior!
Our next chance for winning some points is a possible friendly in December. The media reported that there is an idea to play against Poland, Romania or Ukraine with a national team compiled of domestic based players, but still nothing is official. Well here’s a thought: if we really play, whѕ not also test some internationals that haven’t gotten a chance? There are only a few good Macedonian players in the domestic league and we are doomed if we play only with them. Expect a new downfall if that happens…
