Europa League official dates confirmed

Renova and Shkendija came to an agreement on their home fixtures for the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

The 2015-16 season in the Europa League qualifications will be opened by Renova who will play their home match on June 30, while Shkendija will play two days later. All of the Europa League matches were originally scheduled to take place on July 2, but since Macedonia only has one stadium that meets UEFA standards, changes had to be made.

Renova insisted to have a night game, but they were forced to accept a 18.00 CET kick-off next Tuesday. The temperature in Skopje during that period can easily climb up to 35°C, so that could play a big factor in the game. It’s unknown why UEFA came to that decision. There is a rule that 48 hours must pass before a match can be played at the same stadium, but Shkendija doesn’t kick-off until 21:05 CET on Thursday. So, Renova’s fixture could have started three hours later and fell perfectly within the rules.

UPDATE: Renova’s game will start at 21:05 CET after all. UEFA moved the game back three hours after taking into consideration the soaring temperatures.

The third Macedonian Europa League participant, Rabotnichki, had no such problems as they play the first leg on the road in Estonia.

The official dates and hours:

Tuesday, June 30 at 21:05 CET at the National Arena Philip II of Macedon in Skopje
Renova vs. Dacia

Thursday, July 2 at 21.05 CET at the National Arena Philip II of Macedon in Skopje

Shkendija is already promoting the game on Facebook
