Since the first leg ended with a comfortable 3:0 for the Cypriot team, Metalurg had only a small theoretical hope and as manager Srgjan Zaharievski said at the press-conference, they will try to give their best in order to at least stay undefeated. Unlike the first leg when Omonia started the game with 11 foreigners, this time they put 1 domestic player in the starting 11, the captain Charalambos Kyriakou (got substituted on half-time). On the other hand, Metalurg played all the Europa League games with a 100% Macedonian players which most probably was the key difference between the two sides.

Omonia controlled the play in the rather boring first half that saw no serious attempts on both goals. On half-time Metalurg entered veteran midfielder Mile Krstev and talented young attacker Marjan Radeski which resulted with a much open and attacking play. The home team tried to put some effort toward the visiting goal, but it was Omonia who opened the score after a huge mistake by central defender Dejan Leskaroski. He tried to head the ball back to the keeper, but did that very bad. Nuno Assis took the ball and lobbed Efremov giving Omonia the lead.

For Omonia this was their fourth visit to Macedonia and believe it or not, in 8 games against the Macedonian clubs in the European cups they recorded the eight win! Previously the beat and eliminated Sloga Jugomagnat in 2004 (H 4:0, A 5:1), Milano in 2008 (H 2:0, A 2:1) and Renova in 2010 (H 3:0, A 2:0).

Despite the elimination, this was a successful summer for Metalurg. None expected the Metallurgists to reach the 3rd qualification round since the departures of several key players, but the boys in green made everyone proud with the eliminations of UE Santa Coloma and Željezničar.
