Daniel Mojsov gets his knee stepped on

Lierse captain Daniel Mojsov had to leave Friday’s game after getting stepped on by Cercle Brugge attacker Junior Kabananga.

Lierse and Cercle Brugge played the third game (two more remaining) of their relegation play-off on Friday. Mojsov, a central defender, is tasked with stopping Junior Kabananga, the main striker for Cercle Brugge. Those two guys have been going at each other over the past couple of games.

On Friday, with Lierse leading 1:0, an ugly scene occurred in the 30th minute. After a bad touch, Kabananga extended his right leg and stepped on Mojsov’s left knee. Daniel immediately grabbed his knee and twisted around on the ground in great pain. He would stay down for several moments before hobbling to the sideline. Mojsov pointed at Junior Kabananga and yelled out some expletives as he had to be substituted. Shockingly, Kabanaga only received a yellow card for his stomp.

Mojsov will undergo an x-ray to determine the severity of his injury. However, in comments he gave after the game, Mojsov said that the injury “did not look good.”

Lierse would win Friday’s game 2:0. That means that Lierse and Cercle Brugge are now tied in their matchup. They will play two more games to see who will avoid direct relegation.
