Following the national team retirement of Nikolche Noveski, Macedonia appeared very thin at the center-back position.  However, this summer we have seen two young central defenders make good transfers to solid European leagues.  Earlier, 19-year-old Gjoko Zajkov moved to Rennes in the French top flight, and now Damchevski has signed with NAC Breda of the Dutch top division.  Additionally, Vanche Shikov, Noveski’s partner at CB over the past couple of years, also changed teams this summer in joinng Austria Wien.

These moves undoubtedly brighten up the outlook at the position for Macedonia’s NT heading into the future.  Damchevski is just 21 years old at the time of today’s announcement, will turn 22 later this year.  He was signed after impressing the club during his one week trial.  The NAC Breda sporting director said that Damchevski is big, strong and possesses good technique for a CB.  He also liked that Aleksandar is left footed.  Damchevski is fully expected to compete for a starting spot heading into the start of the 2014-15 season.
