Two goals in the space of four minutes were crucial in today’s game. After a rather equal start, it was the hosts who opened the scoreline in the 22nd minute. Robin Lod was left alone in the box and he had no problems scoring past Damjan Shishkovski. Just 4 minutes later, Valtteri Moren was the tallest in the box, heading the ball home after a corner and doubling his team’s lead. Rabotnichki’s manager decided to bring in striker Chuma Anene in the 38th minute instead of Kire Markoski but until the end of the first half it was only Darko Velkovski who tried lowering the score with a long shot which was saved by the hosts’ keeper.

The second half started just as Rabotnichki might have wished, scoring an early goal. In the 48th minute Stephan Vujčić attempted a long shot which saw the ball bouncing right in front of the keeper and finishing into the net for a glimpse of hope for the visitors. They had nothing to lose so they started attacking more and more, but it was the hosts who played wiser and had the better chances. It could have easily been 3:1, but neither team managed to score until the end of the match. Rabotnichki would have advanced if they managed to get the game to 2:2, but this way this is yet another season in which the Macedonian champion fails to advance the second qualifying round in UEFA Champions League.

HJK will now face Cypriot champions APOEL in the 3rd qualifying round.
