Slovenian media reported today that Agim Ibraimi is expected back at Maribor in the coming days after Cagliari declined its option to purchase the Macedonian international.
Agim Ibraimi is expected to attend the start of Maribor’s summer preparations in the coming days. However, it’s not a given that Ibraimi will remain at Maribor for this upcoming season since they can certainly choose to sell or loan him to another club. That club, though, won’t be Cagliari. As a reminder, Ibraimi was on a 1 year loan at Caglairi, and the Italian side also had the option to purchase Agim outright after the season. But, as “snportal.si” reported today, citing a reliable source, Cagliari has chosen not to take up that option.
Ibraimi ended up making 25 league appearances for Cagliari, netting 2 goals in the process. He did not receive much playing time early in the season, but did get more chances later on under caretaker manager Ivo Pulga. Cagliari is facing uncertain times since there are questions surrounding their ownership situation.
Over the past couple of days, Ibraimi has been linked with English second division side Leeds United, but that is pure speculation at this time. Agim’s future, after all, will be in the hands of Maribor who will have to decide whether to keep him or cash in by selling or loaning Ibraimi to another club.
