Enosis defender Bojan Markoski scored an unfortunate own goal which turned out to be the difference in today’s 1:0 loss against Anorthosis.
For the second consecutive week, a Macedonian defender scored an own goal after Nikolce Noveski accomplished the same feat last week. That player this week turned out to be the 28-year-old Bojan Markoski whose own goal in the 69th minute proved the difference as his side Enosis suffered a 1:0 home loss against Anorthosis. Markoski tried to clear a cross from the left but he inadvertently sent the ball into his own net, beating fellow Macedonian Petar Milosevski who was the starting keeper for Enosis.
Both Milosevski and Markoski played the entire game for Enosis. The home club played well and deserved more against Anorthosis but they were unlucky and suffered the narrow loss. Markoski is nicknamed “The Beast” in Cypriot newspapers as he is considered one of the top defenders in the top division. Markoski joined Enosis back in 2009 when Cedomir Janevski was the manager. Janevski knew the qualities of Markoski from his Vardar days and he was one of the first players that Janevski signed once he became manager of Enosis in 2009. However, last year, Janevski and Enosis parted ways after a slow start to the season. The new manager has kept Markoski as a mainstay in the starting lineup at CB along with the veteran Macedonian goalkeeper Petar Milosevski. Markoski was also a teammate of Ivan Trickovski for a season during Trickovski’s one year stint with Enosis during the 2009-2010 season.
Markoski used to play for the youth national teams of Macedonia but has not been capped by the senior national team. CB is one of the deepest positions on the national team with players such as Nikolce Noveski, Vance Sikov, Daniel Mojsov, Boban Grncarov, and Igor Mitreski.
