At today’s press conference, FFM president Ilcho Gjorgjioski didn’t want to share names of potential candidates for new national team coach, but Boban Babunski or Goce Sedloski will lead the team on an interim basis in Wednesday’s friendly against Lithuania.
The new president of FFM, Ilcho Gjorgjioski, and now former national team manager, John Toshack, were both present at today’s press conference at the Holiday Inn hotel. Toshack told his side of the story and wasn’t in the mood to answer many questions, while president Gjorgjioski didn’t want to share anything new with the present journalists.
“I’m not coaching the national team anymore. On Friday, I had a meeting with the president of FFM and I was told about the new conditions in my contract, conditions that I couldn’t accept at this time. Therefore, we decided that it’s best for both sides to move on. If these conditions were offered to me a year ago by former president Hadji-Risteski, I also wouldn’t have accepted those terms. I understand the ideas of the new president and he also understands my position.” – noted Toshack at the press conference.
He also mentioned that he thinks Macedonia has a chance to qualify for the World Cup, although placed in a tough group. In addition, Toshack sent greetings to former FFM president Haralampie Hadji-Risteski and said, “I hope he is all right.”
“Toshack’s contract was mutually terminated after our recent meeting. We are now searching for a manager who will be 100% dedicated to the Macedonian national team and have strong authority among the staff and the players. We will announce the new coach after the friendly against Lithuania. FFM will actually hold a meeting next Tuesday. Since Toshack is leaving and his top assistant Babunski (also manager of the U21 team) has a friendly in Portugal with the U21 national team, the training sessions will be led by Goce Sedloski.” – stated Ilcho Gjorgjioski to the press.
Gjorgjioski didn’t want to get into who will manage Macedonia on Wednesday. He just said that Sedloski will be there as will Boban Babunski who comes back from Portugal on Tuesday evening, after the U21 friendly concludes between Portugal and Macedonia.
Also, it was announced that Goran Popov will be withdrawn from the Macedonian squad for the friendly against Lithuania as he is currently in England to undergo a medical with Stoke City.
The match against Lithuania takes place on Wednesday at 20.30 CET at the National Arena Philip II of Macedon in Skopje. The tickets are already on sale for a price of 100 Denars (1.64 Euros) and can be purchased from the sales networks of Tobacco and Together shops.
