With his contract expiring at the end of this season, Maribor made it a priority to reach a new deal with its best player in Agim Ibraimi.  Negotiations began several weeks ago and finally the two sides were able to agree to terms, leading to today’s announcement.  Ibraimi feels appreciated at Maribor and his play on the field has made Agim a fan favorite.  That was only reinforced earlier this month when Agim’s two goals led Maribor to the play-off round of the Champions League.

Maribor mentioned that Scottish giant Celtic was interested in Ibraimi, but he ultimately decided to stay in Slovenia and accept the terms offered by Maribor.

Agim returned to Maribor this summer after being loaned to Italian club Cagliari during the 2013-14 campaign.  However, Ibraimi did not receive much playing time in Italy and Cagliari declined the option to purchase him outright after the season.  At Maribor, Ibraimi plays regularly and is considered one of the leaders on the team.  He has more freedom to express himself in Slovenia, so he decided to extend his contract once personal terms offered by Maribor were deemed satisfactory.
